Routes

The Citizen Trail Run offers 3 distances

Your experience starts at 07:30 in the Valley of Waves. We expect about 800 participants. A marshal on a motorbike will lead and assists runners/walkers.

Exit the Valley of Waves through the big wooden gate. The tar road takes you uphill (about 1 km) to the Elephant circle. Go around the circle and enter the Vacation Club. Stay on the tar road. Near the Bakabung Gate, marshals will direct you onto a gravel road. Following their directions, you will reach a Water Point on your left. Continue along a paved road which changes into a jeep track. Follow the directions for more or less 1,5km. Don’t forget to appreciate the view of the Lost City Golf Course. The route continues along the Golf Cart Track. If you missed the water point, you may quench your thirst at the golfers’ water tap. Please don’t take a short cut over the golf course! (Your route is short enough!)

At the 18th hole, enjoy the magnificent view of the Lost City Clubhouse. Pass the Clubhouse towards the circle and then down to the circle at the Palace. A small uphill is the last obstacle. When you reach the Elephant circle, you will have 500m to go.

The last few 100 meters leads you through the beautiful Palace Gardens towards the Valley of Waves. If you pre-entered, your race will be timed. After collecting your medal, move down to the Water Point and enjoy a last drink. Take your race number to the kiosk and change it for a Valley of Waves ticket. Do the same for your family.

Your premium experience starts at 07:15 in the Valley of Waves. We expect about 600 participants. There will be no lead vehicle - follow the instructions of the marshals.

Exit the Valley of Waves. The tar road takes you uphill (about 1 km) to the Elephant Circle. Go around the circle and enter the Vacation Club. Stay on the tar road. Near the Bakabung- Gate, marshals will direct you onto a gravel road. Following their directions, you will reach a Water Point on your left at the 2.5 km mark. Turn left at the water point onto the jeep track. This uphill will tests your legs! Follow the road next to the fence. Don’t forget to enjoy the spectacular view of the Lost City Golf Course on your right hand side.

Please be careful of loose stones and slippery rocks. After about 3 km, you will reach the split for the 10km and 21km. The 10km route turns right and then right again. There will be marshals and markers to assist you. A water point serves cold water and refreshments.

The route follows the Golf Cart Track for about 300m, before you turn right onto a gravel road. After about 1km, turn left again into the hills. The route is now a single track for 1,5km. This part will have no marshals, but it will be clearly marked on your right hand side. Bunting tape will indicate turns. Once over the hill, turn right onto a dirt road leading to the gate at the top of the Valley of Waves. This beautiful part of the route takes you through the Palace Gardens. You will cross the river several times, once over the Spider Bridge. This is a single track, a very dangerous and slippery part of the route. Please be careful! After leaving the garden, there is only 100m to go. Collect your medal at the Finish and move down to the Water Point.

Take your race number to the kiosk and change it for a Valley of Waves ticket. Do the same for your family. Prize giving will be at 11:00 on stage in the Valley of Waves

About 50m after the split, you will find Water Point 2. Water and Coke will be available. Follow the dirt road along the fence. It takes you downhill with a surprise “Vat hom Pappie” short uphill that will definitely give you a workout. Going down will give you a view of the Gary Player Golf Club and activities in the area. At the Boma-gate, turn left into the Letaseng Game Reserve. You will spent a glorious 10km in the Game Reserve.

Be on the lookout for giraffe, sable antelope and kudu! Follow the Quad Bike Route. This is a new feature that has been added to your Trail Running experience. It is an awesome part of the route created and maintained by the Game Trackers. Water Point 3 is at the Elephant Sanctuary. Be sure to take on water - the next Water Point is a further 4km away. Coming out of the single tracks, Water Point 4 awaits you. Pass the Letseng-Gate on a gravel road and turn into the bushes for another leg-tester uphill. The route changes to a gravel road with one very rockery area for about 200m. This route takes you back along the fence, through the Boma-gate and onto a paved road that runs through the Gary Player Golf course. Please don’t run on the grass - we promised the Director of Golf to keep of the grass. This path will bring you back to join the 10km-route, where the last Water Point awaits you.

Quad bikes with medical aid will be on the route to assist. Enjoy your day! We hope to see you next year!
